When we were growing up, Mr. Tortoise was presented to us as a very wise fellow. For all intents and purposes, given his naturally slow disposition, his extreme slowness notwithstanding, his brightness, intelligence and cunning always found Mr. Tortoise coming out on top.
Eventually however, even Mr. Tortoise would sometimes run out of luck. Mr. Tortoise had devised an elaborate plan to steal from the local market once every week by raising a false alarm. Whilst everyone ran for their lives, Mr. Tortoise would raid the market and disappear through a tunnel. The people then came up with a plan. At the next danger alarm, they planned to spread some glue in certain areas of the market where Mr. Tortoise seemed to love mostly.
The trap was set.
By morning, everyone was surprised to see Mr. Tortoise glued to the floor. He had stolen goods stacked on his back already. As his punishment, they built a cage around him for everyone to be able to view him in a state of perpetual shame and disgrace.
Every time I think about the American/Iranian/Israeli situation, my mind goes back to my childhood when my uncle first told us this story. Metaphorically, Israel is the fire alarm, Iran is the glue and America is the tortoise.
Trump must be pinching himself everyday and asking himself a hard question: “I campaigned on a platform of peace. Why did I let Netanyahu goad me into this Spider’s web?”
The midterms are almost here. Efforts to undermine it have come to a crescendo as the Supreme Court grants an unclear victory to Trump regarding Mail-in ballots, thus undermining its own long established position not to do anything major concerning elections close to an election. The States would just have to learn to work around it as there’s no remedy for confusing rulings. The life appointment for Supreme Court justices was designed to shield them from a bad leader. This insulation from meddling gives them extraordinary powers and ability to do things for the long term good of the country. From the points of view of many observers around the country, this does not seem to be working well as their job approval rating sits at 33%. As the saying goes—-It is what it is.
President Trump is no run-of-the-mill personality. He is a force of humanity.
In Newtonian physics parlance, he defies gravity.
He gets what he wants, but it would appear, only in America. Elsewhere, he has met an opponent in Iran that is relentless and never yielding, no matter the number of bombs dropped on their country. They have even gone as far as threatening the President and members of his family.
Does anyone remember Salman Rushdie?
Iran almost got their wish in Turkey thus prompting the President to abandon his own Airforce One, by using a catering van to escape. In a sense, beyond the president’s safety, that was a lucky break for the rest of the world. Who knows what would happen if an American president were to be killed by Iran? Would we have another Hiroshima and Nagasaki on our hands?
O’HARRY.
As Kings go, if we were to arrange all existing kingdoms in a triangle, the King of England would be sitting comfortably at the apex of the triangle.
King Charles has been on display for the entire world to see and love or hate for the last 77 years. He was a man caught between the old and the new—-can I, can I not. In a sense, his expected devotion to the throne and duty was caught up in a duel with his human desires as a mere man as we all are. He was supposed to marry a certain kind of person, yet, he was in love with another kind.
Diana waltzed into this picture. She never had a chance. In another time and another place and tradition, she and Charles could have written an all time great love story.
I guess we are all prisoners of our culture, religion, time and geography in a sense.
It is therefore no surprise to observers of history that the King would be seeking a reconciliation with his second son. Anyone who has children knows that it is only your child that holds a place in your heart that no one, and nothing else can replace.
That space was created by God. It is a place of completeness and satisfaction. An Amen.
As O’HARRY relocates to his homeland, in spite of everything in his past, even he must feel a sense of wholeness and completeness to be back on his home soil.
He is a prince of the most recognized monarchy on earth. He represents class and elegance —- a place of honor towards which the entire earth gravitates.
America does not offer that. Celebrity can never hold a candle to the British monarchy. Celebrity goes to the monarchy for the monarchy to place a Knighting Sword on its head to be called Sir. It does not get better than that.
NIGERIA WE LOVE THEE.
Back in our beautiful country, politicians are rearranging their alliances in the struggle for power come 2027. In this season, everything that people may have taken for granted tends to come into focus. People will stand before a crowd and make promises of how they plan to bring Eldorado to a village whose problems had been known for 66 years. There’s a village in Ebonyi State that needs a bridge. Politicians gather the people on one side of the river and scream promises to the other side of the river. Somehow, the people are patient to listen. They vote. They hope. A bridge never comes, but they continue to vote and hope. This is the central theme of the story—-“Waiting for Godot.” It’s a French satire about a certain Monsieur Godot who had asked some people to wait for him at a designated spot. All the people showed up. It’s been over 77 years since that story was written. The French people are still waiting for Monsieur Godot to show up.
President Tinubu has been through the crucible of political turmoil, fire and thunder in Nigeria since he emerged in our national life in the uncertain days of NADECO. We admired him then. He can be our hero today. He holds enormous powers which he can wield to change our lives in fundamental ways. Unlike his opponents, he does not need to make promises. He can make things happen—-now. If I had five minutes with the president, I would tell him—- Mr. President, the major key to your reelection is Roads, Roads, Roads. Fortunately for him, the dry season is around the corner. He must throw the kitchen sink at the road challenge. Here’s the secret.
Roads play an outsized role in controlling inflation.
Our economy is basic. Macroeconomic theory was not written for basic economies.
Thank you for listening Mr. President.
FYI: There’s a short movie everyone needs to watch. It’s titled: 3 Friends. Check it out on O’meekey TV. You will love it. See link below.
