Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas Chief who was killed in Iran a few days ago, lived by the sword. He knew that just like many before him that everyday he saw the Sun shining was a lucky day for him. The State of Israel historically is a country of Shepherds. Shepherds give their lives for their sheep. Vengeance is at the core of the Shepherd’s being. Two months before Haniyeh went to Iran, a bomb had been planted in his bedroom in the Guest House where he usually stayed in Iran. Ask me how? I can tell you this. If you give a man enough money to do something, his morals and convictions will fly out of the window. I can easily speculate that a maid, a cleaner or a security man who helped plant that bomb is enjoying his loot in a faraway place. He knows that this is a high stakes game. He will forever be looking behind his back every single day of his life.
If there’s one thing we can be sure of in that part of the world, it is this: Haniyeh’s killing will not change anything. Someone else will step up to take his place. A Hamas man is in a covenant of death. Peace is anathema to Hamas. Otherwise, how do you watch your city being blown to rubble and continue to fight an enemy whom you know does not take prisoners?
