Egogonewshub Weekly Roundup

In case you missed it during the last week or two, Nigeria has been in the news for three major things.

The hunger protest came to a quiet end on August 10th. It is reported that over 20 people were killed and over 1,000 people arrested.

We at egogonews humbly ask that these prisoners of conscience be released unconditionally. We need all hands on deck to build our country. When did it become a crime for one to complain about hunger?

In a very curious matter, the leader of the N12B Nigerian Olympic delegation to Paris was heard making excuses for not bringing home a medal of any type. He actually said we did not have enough time to prepare.

We could have been happy with the word ‘medal’ being spelt on a famous hard bread, (le pain), from Charles De Gaulle Airport. I thought we had four years to prepare? Well, clearly not because he is counting from the day he collected N12B. It would be nice to see if he brought back some change. It is more likely that they even incurred a debt on top of N12B. Hail to Nigeria.

The third reason Nigeria made the news was that our Presidential Air fleet was seized abroad for the mishandling of a contract in Ogun State. A Chinese firm got a juicy contract from Governor A to build an export free trade zone in Ogun State. Governor B came and revoked it without reading the fine print.

The Chinese firm went to court and obtained judgement against Nigeria’s assets. You may want to ask what Nigeria has to do with a matter in Ogun State. I can bet we were in so much hurry to divide money that we did not read even the large prints.

In case you did not hear, Kamala Harris has confused Trump. Every time Trump gets a chance to speak, he spends half the time lamenting the exit of Joe Biden. He misses the old man because he has suddenly become the really old man running against a woman 19 years younger with a smile so lovely he’s swooning.

Trump loves beautiful women. She’s so beautiful, he even says she looks like his wife, Melania. Awwww!!!

In Thailand, the real Kingmakers are the people in the Constitutional Court and the Military. The Constitutional Court just sacked their last Prime Minister for employing a lawyer who had had a problem with the law. His conduct was deemed unethical by the Constitutional Court and he was asked to go home.

Some Nigerians in Thailand wondered why the outgoing Prime Minister had not gone to “see” the Judges.

He has since been replaced by a 37-year old woman. She’s the daughter of a billionaire businessman. Her father and her aunt had previously occupied the same position. It is only hoped she will do a good job so as not to provoke either the military or the Constitutional Court.

Despite winning with an overwhelming number of medals at the Olympics, the United States is fighting hard to retrieve a Bronze medal they thought they deserved in gymnastics. That’s how you know a country that never abandons its own.

And by the way, did you miss the news that Ukraine has taken the war to Russian soil? They’ve taken over 82 villages and towns spanning over 1,200 square miles. That’s deep in the heart of Russia. The last time Russia was invaded was in 1941, by Adolf Hitler in Operation Barbarossa when 3.8 million men backed by thousands of tanks and thousands of aircraft attacked Russia because as Hitler put it, “Germans needed more space to breathe.” It takes a certain kind of personality to dream of attacking Russia. They have been the ones doing the invading. Notably, Russia has invaded these countries since 1900.

Russia or the Soviet Union has invaded China, Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Austria-Hungary, Germany, Afghanistan, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Finland, Romania, Poland again, Finland again, Germany again, Hungary, Austria, Poland a third time, Romania again, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Hungary (again), Czechoslovakia, Georgia, Ukraine [Crimea], Ukraine[Donbas], and then, the whole of Ukraine.

Finally, Russia is getting a taste of its own medicine.

In Nigeria, we have a great saying in matters of this sort: “Oga Putin, how market?”

On Friday, Kamala Harris was in North Carolina to present her economic plan. She calls it the “Economic Opportunity Plan.”

It’s kind of hard to run on your old boss’s record when you are a part of the administration. She was careful to take ownership of the situation of inflation in the country without wrapping hersel in it. She acknowledged that despite all the work they had done, things were still tough. Way to go!!

She must stay on message to win this election. The Democratic Convention begins on Monday in Chicago. She must be having nightmares about how to address a planned protest by 40,000 pro-Palestinian protesters.

The last time the Democratic Party had a problem like this was in 1968, in the heat of the atrocious war in Vietnam. The optics of police shooting teargas and badgering protesters compounded their loss. Nixon won in a landslide.

Kamala, Chicago, beware the Ides of August.
