Kamala, Trump, and Gen Z.

“Trump, we know. Biden, we know. As for Kamala, she’s a whole new kettle of fish!” This was a direct quote from Brianna Canberra, a first time voter from deep in the heart of blood red Texas. When two old men were running, one, a very angry man thirsting for vengeance, the other, a very, very old man who shuffled and tried to remember things, people just shrugged. Many had vowed to sit out November. There was no excitement on the Democratic ticket. On the Republican side, it was a shrug of acceptance as people did not have anywhere else to go.

And then suddenly, everything changed. Gen Z saw Kamala. She looked liked them, talked like them and walked like them. Especially, she understands their issues, issues like reproductive rights. She’s speaking their language. Close to 41 million new voters will be joining the voter rolls in November. Will they be a factor one way or another? Whoever speaks their language of memes and emojis and is playing with them on Tik Tok will get their attention. One of the candidates may think of Tik Tok as the grandfather standing clock. That’s a generational difference right there!
