The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has issued a strong advisory to Nigerians, urging them to refrain from panic buying fuel during the holiday season. This statement comes in response to growing concerns about potential fuel shortages as the yuletide approaches.

Assurance of Sufficient Fuel Supply

In a recent announcement made on December 23, 2024, IPMAN emphasised that there is an adequate supply of fuel available across the country. The association’s publicity secretary, Ukadike Chinedu, reassured consumers that the current stock levels are sufficient to meet demand, and there is no need for alarm. He highlighted that the organisation is committed to ensuring a steady and efficient distribution of fuel at fair prices throughout the festive period.

Addressing Consumer Concerns

The call to avoid panic buying is particularly pertinent as previous instances of fuel scarcity have led to widespread anxiety among consumers, resulting in long queues at filling stations and inflated prices. IPMAN’s proactive stance aims to mitigate such scenarios this year by encouraging a calm approach among consumers.

Chinedu stated, “We understand the concerns of Nigerians during this festive period, but we want to assure them that there is enough fuel supply. Panic buying only creates unnecessary pressure on the system and can lead to artificial shortages.”

The Impact of Panic Buying

Panic buying can exacerbate supply chain issues and lead to increased prices, ultimately affecting all consumers. By urging individuals to purchase fuel as needed rather than in bulk, IPMAN hopes to promote a more stable market environment.

As the holiday season approaches, it is important for Nigerians to heed IPMAN’s advice and avoid panic buying. With assurances of sufficient fuel supply, consumers can enjoy a more relaxed festive period without the stress of fuel shortages. By remaining calm and informed, Nigerians can contribute to a smoother distribution process and help maintain fair pricing in the market.
