Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans for a significant cabinet reshuffle, citing the need to improve performance and inject fresh talent into his administration. This move comes in response to a recent evaluation of his cabinet members’ performance and aims to drive the state’s development agenda forward.

Performance Evaluation and Reshuffle Decision
Governor Yusuf confirmed on Friday that he has received a report from a committee tasked with assessing the performance of his cabinet members. Based on this evaluation, he intends to make changes to his executive team, potentially removing underperforming officials.
“The public would soon see my next action,” the governor stated, indicating that decisions on the reshuffle are imminent.
Expectations from Cabinet Members
Governor Yusuf emphasised his expectations for his commissioners, which include:
1. Absolute loyalty to himself, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
2. Dedication to duty.
3. Proactive initiatives for state development.
He stressed that none of the current commissioners were appointed through lobbying but rather based on their experience, credibility, and qualifications.
Aims of the Reshuffle
The primary objectives of this cabinet overhaul are:
1. To bring in new talent with the necessary skills and dedication.
2. To drive the state’s development forward.
3. To meet the expectations of the people of Kano State.

Ongoing Development Initiatives
Alongside the cabinet reshuffle, Governor Yusuf highlighted several ongoing initiatives to address poverty and boost development in the state:
- Distribution of free food items to urban and rural residents to alleviate hardships caused by fuel subsidy removal.
- Upgrades to KASCO, the state-owned fertiliser production company, to enhance agricultural output.
- Monthly empowerment programs provide ₦50,000 to 52,000 women and youths for small business startups.
As Kano State awaits the implementation of these changes, Governor Yusuf’s decision to reshuffle his cabinet demonstrates a commitment to performance-driven governance. The move is expected to bring new energy and ideas to the state administration, potentially accelerating development efforts and improving service delivery to the people of Kano.
