Pop superstar Taylor Swift has officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for President in the 2024 U.S. election. Swift made the announcement in an Instagram post shortly after the conclusion of the first presidential debate on Tuesday night.
“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift wrote to her 283 million followers. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a champion.”
The Grammy-winning artist praised Harris as a “composed, talented leader” and expressed confidence that the country can achieve more under her steady leadership. She also praised Harris’ choice of running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as an advocate for LGBTQ+, civil, and women’s rights.
Swift’s endorsement comes as a significant boost to the Harris campaign, given her massive popularity, especially among young female voters. In 2020, Swift supported the Biden-Harris ticket and has been openly critical of former President Donald Trump, accusing him of stoking “the fires of white supremacy and racism.”
The post, which included a photo of Swift with her cat Benjamin Button, was signed “Childless Cat Lady” – a reference to controversial comments made by Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, about women without children.
Swift’s endorsement was not coordinated with the Harris campaign, according to a senior official. However, Walz appeared to learn about it during a live interview on MSNBC, reacting with a smile and saying, “That was eloquent. And it was clear. And that’s the kind of courage we need in America to stand up.”
The Trump campaign dismissed Swift’s endorsement, with spokesperson **Karoline Leavitt** calling it evidence that the Democratic Party has become “a party of the wealthy elites.” However, Swift’s influence and ability to drive voter registration cannot be ignored.
This marks the latest chapter in Swift’s political journey, which began in 2018 when she broke her silence on politics and endorsed Democratic candidates in her home state of Tennessee. Her endorsements have consistently led to spikes in voter registration, particularly among young people.
As the 2024 election season heats up, Swift’s support for Harris could have a significant impact on the campaign. The pop icon’s commitment to using her platform to advocate for causes she believes in and encourage civic engagement continues to resonate with her devoted fanbase and the broader electorate.
