Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail for the third time as he faces serious charges in a federal sex-trafficking case. The decision was made on November 27, 2024, by U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, who cited multiple factors that indicate Combs poses a danger to the community and a risk of witness tampering.
Background of the Case
Combs, who has been in custody since his arrest in September 2024, is charged with a range of serious offences, including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, forced labour, and transportation for prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The allegations against him involve using his business empire as a cover for abusive practices, including orchestrating elaborate sex parties referred to as “Freak Offs,” which allegedly involved coercing participants and distributing drugs to maintain compliance.
Court Ruling and Reasons for Denial
In his ruling, Judge Subramanian emphasised that the government had provided clear and convincing evidence demonstrating that no conditions could ensure the safety of the community if Combs were released. The judge pointed to compelling evidence of Combs’ propensity for violence and ongoing attempts to contact potential witnesses from behind bars. Prosecutors have accused him of using other inmates’ phone privileges to reach out to individuals who could testify against him.
The court also took into account Combs’ alleged violations of prison rules during his detention, including arranging unmonitored calls and using unauthorised communication methods. These actions raised significant concerns about his reliability and intentions if granted bail.

Defense’s Argument
Combs’ legal team proposed a $50 million bail package that included strict conditions such as house arrest in an Upper East Side apartment, 24-hour monitoring, and restrictions on cell phone use. However, the court ultimately rejected these proposals, citing doubts about their effectiveness given Combs’ past behaviour.
His defence attorneys have argued that the case against him is weak and that he should be released to prepare adequately for his trial scheduled for May 2025. They contend that the allegations stem from misunderstandings and mischaracterizations of his actions.

Ongoing Legal Challenges
As Combs remains incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn, he faces numerous civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and abuse from multiple individuals, including claims from minors at the time of the alleged incidents. His legal battles are extensive, with prosecutors indicating that their investigation is ongoing and may lead to further charges or additional defendants. Despite the serious nature of the allegations against him, Combs has consistently denied any wrongdoing. His legal team maintains that he will fight these charges vigorously as they prepare for trial.
