IGP Orders Redeployment of Commissioners of Police in FCT, Rivers, and Delta States

In a significant move aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of policing across the nation, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Commissioners of Police (CPs) for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rivers State, and Delta State. This strategic reshuffle reflects the IGP’s commitment to optimising police operations and addressing pressing security challenges in these regions.

Key Changes in Command

The redeployment includes the following key appointments:

  • CP Olatunji Disu, previously serving as the Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, has been reassigned to head the FCT Command.
  • CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, who was in charge of Delta State Command, will now take over as the Commissioner of Police for Rivers State.
  • CP Peter Opara, formerly the Commissioner of Police for the FCT, has been appointed as the new Commissioner for Delta State.

These changes were announced by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement released on September 19, 2024. The IGP emphasised that these adjustments are part of a broader strategy to ensure effective policing and maximise human resources within the Nigeria Police Force.

In addition to these key redeployments, the IGP has also appointed four new Commissioners of Police to various state commands across Nigeria:

“The postings reflect our mission to strategically reposition the Police Force and ensure maximum utilisation of human resources available to us,” Egbetokun stated. He encouraged the newly appointed commissioners to be proactive in their approach and work collaboratively with communities to enhance public safety.As these new leaders take charge, there is hope for enhanced policing strategies that will contribute to a safer environment for all citizens.
