In a significant move to bolster Edo State’s entertainment and event hosting capabilities, Governor Godwin Obaseki and Afrobeats superstar Rema participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Edo Arena on August 29, 2024. The state-of-the-art facility, set to be named “Rema’s Dome,” will have a seating capacity of 6,000 and is strategically located at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekenhuan Road in Benin City.
Rema’s Homecoming and Participation
Rema, who hails from Benin City, arrived in his hometown on Tuesday, August 28, ahead of his highly anticipated homecoming concert scheduled for Friday, August 30 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. The young Afrobeats sensation joined Governor Obaseki and other dignitaries, including the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, Culture and Diaspora Affairs, Uyi Oduwa Malaka, for the groundbreaking event.
During the ceremony, Rema laid the first block of the arena, expressing his gratitude and pride for the growth and development of his home state. He commended Governor Obaseki’s leadership and the administration’s efforts to transform Edo State over the past eight years.
