Why are the world’s richest men mostly single? Is too much wealth a disincentive to successful marriage?

Let’s start from home, shall we? The richest man in Africa is unmarried. Same for his contemporaries on the same list. They are all single fathers with multiple ex-wives. Their American, and European older counterparts also have many ex-wives from different marriages under their belts.

So, on Women’s Hub this week, the conversation will centre around the curse or blessing of wealth, and success on relationships. Could it be that the tremendous energy required to produce wealth negates the needed investment in marriage? To think that a regular bloke imagines that if he could just hammer, and make it big, everything will fall into place.

So let’s explore this trend even further. I read somewhere that successful marriages are not predicated on 50/50 formula that is taught in marriage classes. Have you heard about the funny formulas being touted around?

Some call it 80/20, 70/30 or even 90/10! Either party in the union shoulders much more than the other partner, and deliberately at that. You sometimes need to be stoic, calm, and serene to navigate this sometimes slippery terrain.

So, is it that someone spearheading multi-billion dollar projects in different countries of the world with diverse investors may have used up his humanity in these businesses? Or that he’s incapable of carnal human feelings? Should he then be excused from daily routines of care and empathy required in marriage?

The last time I checked, most billionaires have dished out humongous divorce packages for their ex-wives. Someone paid out company stocks as well as cool cash to set up their former spouses for life.

One wonders why marital prenups are the in thing in the Western world but relatively uncommon in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

So, this is our poser for the week:

Do you prefer to be filthy rich and single?

Do you prefer to be working class, and happily married?

What are your thoughts on this conversation?
The festive season is upon us so, be careful out there guys.
