You’ve got to give it to Jesus. If anyone wants to live the true Christian life today, they need to go back and study every word that Jesus uttered in the course of his ministry on earth. Let’s begin with one today. We will be treating this as a series over the next few Sundays.
If he were speaking pidgin, what Jesus said to his mother when Mary brought a matter to him that the wine at the marriage ceremony in Canaan of Galilee had run out would have sounded exactly like this—-“Mama, which kind wahala be dis? I dey sell wine?”
Instead, what did he do? Beyond expressing initial exasperation, he went further to honor his mother.
While his initial response represented his human side, the eventual action of acceding to her request represented his God-side.
Let’s not forget that he was there at creation. Let’s not also forget that he was there at the burning bush—-
“Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.” John 14:11.
So, if he was there at the burning bush, it must go without saying that the 5th Commandment—-Honor your father, and your mother—-was a scripture he knew, and understood too well.
For Jesus, doing the right thing was always his default position.
What is yours?
Do you always seek for advantage?
As we go into 2025, wherever you stand in your Christian journey if you have begun it already, or in your life’s journey if you’re yet to begin your Christian journey—-let doing the right thing become your default position on every matter.
Try it and see the difference.
