The 51st Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11 recently turned 50.
He celebrated in grand style in the ancestral land of the Yorubas.
Important dignitaries, influential business moguls, ex military strongmen, politicians of all hues and Nollywood greats were present to celebrate with him.
Brother Obas from the South West zone were on parade too as support system for the effervescent and flamboyant king.
But, it was Ooni Ogunwusi’s thanksgiving speech that has given birth to this article.
I have noticed a trend on social media. It’s easy to spot the funny antics of those who are calling themselves ‘Online In-laws.’ I would rather call them meddlesome, hypocritical, frustrated jobless women.
I’m fully equipped and ready to drag them this season because their cup is full, and overflowing.
Just stick with me as I unpack my message.
During his birthday thanksgiving speech, Oba Ogunwusi recollected how he was dragged on social media.
How he was mocked about his marital woes.
He particularly mentioned that 3 wives walked out on him in the full glare of the media. And online in-laws went to town vilifying him.
According to him, a king without a queen is not highly regarded in the society.
That was why he crowed to the delight of his guests that his palace is now full of queens.
After the highly publicised breakups of 3 monogamous marriages, Oba Ogunwusi married 6 wives in 1 week.
This reminds me of Olufela Anikulapo Kuti of blessed memory. He too married 27 wives in one ceremony.
Ever since Oba Ogunwusi put his royal harem in place, online in-laws have been on his case. Just as they have been on the case of some actresses who joined the polygamous train.
There was also this case of a frontline Nollywood actor who married a second wife.
You would think he committed murder with his dragging on social media.
His first wife fell under their spell and instituted divorce proceedings.
The children have been instigated to dump their surnames on account of polygamy!
Which is why I ask: Is polygamy evil?
We will try to answer and do justice to this matter next week.
Let me drop this for now.
Abraham father of Judaism which is the forerunner of the Christian faith was polygamous.
King David was polygamous, and a man after God’s heart.
Polygamy is allowed in the Muslim religion.
It’s the norm in traditional African society.
