Women’s Scorecard:Kudos and Knocks on Democracy Day

It’s a mixed bag really for women development during the two year anniversary of the current administration.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed professional women from different sectors as Ministers into the Federal Executive Council. This is the highest decision making organisation in the nation. Some of their portfolios include Culture/Creative Economy, Trade, FCT, Foreign Affairs and Women/Youth Development.

Women politicians were elected as Federal lawmakers as Senators and Representatives. There are no elected Governors, while a few are Local Government Chairpersons. But their numbers have fallen short of the 50% Beijing affirmative action canvased by United Nations.

In the private sector, more women are now Chairpersons, Managing Directors, Executive Directors of blue chip companies. Leading the way are Zenith, Fidelity and GT Banks. Kudos to the growing population of women in frontline positions.

On the other hand it’s knocks considering the rise in women trafficking to lowlife countries for prostitution and slave labour. At least several rescue missions have been carried out by NAPTIP and NIDCOM to bring back young girls trapped in Libya, Mali and Cape Verde. Some are teenagers from same families lured with fake job and training opportunities.

The Girl Child is an endangered species considering the social and technological advancement in the 21st Century. Some have been incapacitated by fake amorous relationships on social media apps. Others have been fleeced of their fortune by wicked yahoo operators. While others have been kidnapped with body organs harvested for monetary gains during romance scams.

We say kudos to the delectable amazons blazing the trail in real estate development, logistics, food, beverage and merchandising of health and beauty products.

We celebrate the latest players in the creative economy. These new breed Influencers have become the new money class. These include content creators, skit makers, comediennes, podcast producers and production gurus.

Haven’t you been moved by the sheer artistry of Taooma, Kiekie, Toyin Abraham, Sharon Onoja, Nancy Isime and others. These young ladies drop hot pieces on streaming channels to the delight of their teeming fan base.

So how do you pitch the women scorecard at your end? Kudos 👏🏾 or knocks ⚔️?
