The Achalugo Phenomenon: Can Gen Z Generation Ladies Keep An Odogwu Panranran?

The film ‘Love in every word,’ directed and produced by Omoni Oboli, an ace Nollywood filmmaker has undoubtedly broken all viewing records on YouTube.
Even though it’s not the best film that has emerged from the stables of this filmmaker, and others in the industry, it has garnered immense cultural appropriations akin to a movement.

Maybe I should unpack this phenomenon for you just in case you live under a rock. ‘Love in every Word’ is a short pretty film about relationships among urban professionals in Nigeria.
It stars middle grade actors, not your usual known superstars.

Yet, it has smashed records and provided huge opportunities for its main characters: Uzor Arukwe, and Bamike Olawunmi Adenibuyan aka—BamBam.

I have watched the film on YouTube several times to unravel the attention it has elicited among the netizens. Why are they passionate about it?
Why are they sharing hashtags and recreating different scenes on TikTok?

From detailed investigations carried out by Women’s Hub, we found out that people needed a lift from the gloom and doom of the political landscape all over the world. This is why they naturally gravitate towards this escapist route.

Take a cursory look from Europe, United States, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Israel, Gaza, Ukraine, Russia and you are filled with unsavory tales about politics, tariff wars, dislocations and what have you.

At moments like these, people yearn for titillating and salacious tales by moonlight of romance and love. The film has unknowingly aptly positioned itself to fill this void at this time.

Here are my Short Takes from
‘Love in every Word.’

  1. Achalugo Phenomenon
  2. Odogwu Panranran
  3. Committee of Friends
  4. All work and no play
  5. Unfair labour laws
  6. Relationship is work
  7. Childhood trauma is real
  8. Last last, love is sweet

So, my question to the Gen Z generation is this: will you be able to attract and keep an Odogwu Panranran with your woke tendencies? Can you be independent, successful, career driven, and yet be feminine? Can you calm down enough to form, build and nurture a romantic relationship with an Odogwu Panranran?
