When Marital Home Becomes A Death Camp

The Internet was recently abuzz with gory details of a dangerous domestic incident involving a winsome couple. You may be tempted to think you were watching scenes from the popular ‘True Crime Series ‘ with the salacious details of the unfolding story.

Well, the gist is that a marriage of less than a year has resulted in the fatal death of a spouse. Not from car accident, food poisoning or air crash. But from severe burns from an accidental inferno caused by jerry can fuel.

This same week, a top Evangelical player openly discussed the failures in her marriage and why she had to walk away after 10 years and 3 children.
She had just become a co- General Overseer of her late parents Church organisation. There were tittle tattle about her marital status because of her position in Christendom. She had retained her maiden name and kept her husband and children from public view.
She recently turned 40 and came clean in exclusive chats with credible news outlets. She’s quoted as saying “my marriage failed even though I’m a devoted Christian. We tried to make it, prayed together several times. But in the end realised we weren’t compatible.”

Another A list actor is still being dragged by his ex wife of rampant violence in their marriage. This already led to the end of his illustrious Nollywood career and loss of his exclusive secondary school cum commercial endorsements. He even had to abandon Nigeria to start a new life in Ghana.

Another celebrated actor passed on last year and was innocuously buried without fanfare in tandem with his professional stature. Then his industry colleagues regaled the Internet with unsavoury details of emotional abuse and physical attacks from his spouse and in-laws.
He died a broken broke ass guy.

Gender based violence against women are regarded as abomination all over the world. Several non profit organisations are established to sensitise the public about the damage of mental/physical violence on the wife and children.
Online in-laws are ready with vitriolic words to bring down or shut down the careers or businesses of such husbands. One of such an actor is still being dragged online for getting his side chick pregnant.
Another A list comedian and filmmaker was relentlessly dragged for the breakup of his celebrity marriage.

But what happens when the damage is caused by the female party in the marital union. Online videos have circulated of a husband being whipped with a belt by his wife. Other husbands have shamefully relocated abroad because of constant beatings from their wives.

Why are there more professional women deficient in emotional intelligence, anger management, marital decorum and proper mental health. Why are there more female combatants in marriages today?

This is one cause yours truly will be taking up in curated Masterclasses next year. Watch out.

Meanwhile, I have noticed a dearth of non profits established to cater to men’s issues and their concerns. Perhaps Egogonews should take up the challenge.
