Day 2 of the Democratic National Convention.

A big revelation for Day 2 came in the form of Stephanie Grisham. She was Communications Director for Trump and a very close aide to Melania. There’s a story I’d like to tell before I continue. There’s an anecdote about a Pharaoh who became a tyrant. When he was asked why he became a tyrant, his reply was incisive: “Because no one stopped me.”

Apparently, Melania was an enabler of Trumpism at its core. Grisham revealed to the world yesterday that on January 6th, 2021, she begged Melania to tweet a peaceful message to the rioters and she promptly replied with an emphatic “No.”

For Grisham, she said that was when the Dam broke for her. She woke up to the realization that she was working for people who had no compunction about tearing down the country for their personal gain.

She also said Trump mocked his supporters as basement dwellers. Anyone listening to that must have felt a moment of disgust. If the first law of survival is self preservation, why are his supporters more interested in Trump’s survival and viability than theirs?

Another special speaker last night was a spitting image of John John Kennedy, the late son of JFK. He spoke like a Kennedy, evoking the achievements of his grandfather in a few short but pungent words. He concluded by saying Kamala was the direction to go.

Then came the grandson of Jimmy Carter who sounded and felt like the old man himself.
He concluded, “Kamala is the carrier of his grandpa’s legacy of truth, dignity and honesty.”

Doug Emhoff, the likely soon to be First Gentleman did his best to humanize his wife as only he could. Then came Bernie the teacher. He breaks things down. He makes a strong argument. Everyone wished he were younger. Time passes and leaves everyone and everything behind. He missed his chance in 2016. Hillary missed her chance in 2016. They needed each other. Hillary’s obvious choice for Vice President should have been Bernie. They missed the chance of a lifetime in a fleeting moment of bad decision making. It cost the Democratic Party, cost the country, and cost the world.

America was not prepared for COVID because the man in charge started off mocking the disease instead of fighting it.

The heavy hitters for Day 2 were Obama and Michelle. They were simply a delight to watch. I would imagine that they did not share their speeches with each other so they could see how closely their views of the world were aligned. There was no daylight between them as they both came to the same conclusion: “Hope has made a comeback.”

It was a spectacular night graced by extraordinary people.

My winner for the night?

I’ll pick Kennedy’s grandchild, Jack Schlossberg.

Kamala Harris has done well to bring him into the limelight. She will do better to use his appeal to young men and women, and first time voters. He will bring great value to the table with young people.
