Is Polygamy staging a comeback in 21st Century?

As someone who grew up in a polygamous home with multiple siblings and mothers, I surely have a vantage view of this convoluted form of matrimony.
My father, grandfathers both paternal and maternal were ardent polygamists in their time.

It was common place to mingle with different siblings, cousins, uncles, and aunties without batting our eyelids.
I particularly enjoyed the various games, mischief and escapades that I carried out
with my trusted allies back then.

We went on haunts, plucking fruits, sneaking meat from soup pots, taking forbidden beverages, and generally camping out.

We definitely didn’t understand or were too young to feel the marital tension of polygamy among our respective mothers.
It wasn’t our place to unravel the A-Z of it.

Surprisingly today, none of my siblings, uncles or male cousins have openly embraced polygamy. They are married to one spouse but some are codedly ensnared with multiple side chicks.

So I kinda stepped back and blinked my eyes a few days ago, when a top songstress openly spoke about her readiness to embrace polygamy.

This lady had been married and divorced. She has also dated widely as a single mum. At 44, she disclosed that she’s willing to be an obedient and friendly second wife. And that she will not be nasty to the first wife! Talk about climbing down from a ladder of marital prominence.

Same week that was also a red flag day for polygamy. There was this ruckus in a hitherto ‘pepper dem’ polygamous setting on social media.
A leaked video portrayed the 6th wife of a serial polygamist openly berating the Odogwu in a disheveled manner. Was this acting? Was it a comedy skit? Was it AI?
Salvos were fired on different fronts by the protagonists, online and offline in laws.

For those who don’t know, polygamy is as old as mankind. It was practiced by patriarchs in the Qur’an, Scriptures and Judaism. They included Ancestors like Abraham, Jacob, David, Solomon, Elkanah, Boaz. Queen Esther’s husband, King Xerxes had a full harem of virgins.

I understand that more professional women like our songstress are queuing up to enrol as 2nd or 3rd wives. Maybe a certain young wife of a billionaire industrialist should organise a Masterclass on how to thrive in a polygamous home.

So, can you accomplished single professional become a 2nd or 3rd wife at 38 years?
